A Deep Dive into the Book of Jonah (Online)

September 11 – October 20, 2023

Course Description: The story of Jonah is one of the most widely known and best-loved tales in Scripture. But preaching and teaching the book of Jonah is as challenging as it is fascinating, and a great opportunity to explore the depths of human experience. This course will review mainstream interpretive histories of Jonah as well as some newer directions that hold particular promise for preachers and teachers. In addition, we'll consider how artists, poets, dramatists, and musicians have interpreted this book for contemporary audiences.

Location: Online, with five live sessions on Tuesdays 2:00 – 3:30 PM EST.

With: Anna Carter Florence, Peter Marshall Professor of Preaching at Columbia Theological Seminary.

Schedule:  There will be live sessions via Zoom on Tuesdays from 2:00 – 3:30 PM EST. The rest of the coursework is asynchronous (participants not required to log in at specific times), as participants complete weekly writing and reflection exercises.

Program Fee:  Full program fee $220; early registration prior to August 1, $200. Discounts for 2023 CTS graduates, current students, faculty and staff.
