Sacred Encounters: The Power and Presence of Jesus Christ in Luke-Acts (2023-2024 PW/Horizons Bible Study Leader Seminar)

August 7-9, 2023

Course Description: This seminar is designed to prepare leaders to facilitate the nine lessons in this year’s PW/Horizons Bible Study. This study invites readers to consider Jesus, “the good shepherd” who shared the Good News through sacred encounters with everyday people. Exploring Luke’s Gospel and the Acts of the Apostle will reveal the unfolding of God’s redemptive purposes in human history and present a radical, inclusive and hope-filled message.

Location: Harrington Center 222 and library/boardroom

With: Rev. Dr. Olive Mahabir. She was born in Trinidad and Tobago and served in the Diaconal Ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Trinidad. Following her ordination in the P.C.U.S.A, she has pastored churches in Michigan, Atlanta, and Jonesboro, Georgia. A graduate of St. Andrew’s Theological College in Trinidad, the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, and Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, Olive enjoys visits to the beach, watching historical documentaries, and spending time with family.

Schedule: Monday and Tuesday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM and Wednesday 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Program Fee: The regular program fee is $235; early registration is $200 thru June 7, 2023. Discounts are available for CTS 2023 graduates, spouses/students/faculty.

Housing: Queen suites and regular rooms with two twin beds are reserved. Queen suites run $106.92/night including tax and regular rooms as singles are $93.96. Shared rooms are $60.48/person/night.

Meals: Two lunches (Monday and Tuesday), continental breakfast and light refreshments are provided.

Additional Information: Participants will be required to follow any public health guidelines in place at the seminary at the time of the seminar, including being fully vaccinated. Wearing masks is always welcome, even if not required.
