Course Description: The practicum is an application of knowledge and practices in Christian Spirituality gleaned through the CSF coursework. The practicum affords participants an opportunity to reflect on their spiritual leadership and to share what they have learned with others in a faith community, in the workplace or in ministries of outreach.
Participants conceive, design, and conduct a practical act of ministry under supervision. Projects may include forming a small group for prayer and study, leading a spiritual retreat, developing a new mission, or another project of interest. It may also reflect a new interest or area of discovery and discernment toward the next step in ministry.
The project will require no more than 20 hours to complete (not more than the time spent in an online or in-person CSF course). The work should be completed within three to six months of registration for the practicum.
Participants are advised to begin thinking about their practicum when they have completed the introductory course and two to three electives.
Process for completing the Practicum:
Register for the Practicum.
- Meet with your supervisor and a CSF practicum advisor to discuss ideas for your project.
- Create your practicum Proposal and submit through the Moodle course site.
- Test the model or complete the practical work. For instance, you may plan a six-week Lenten study, then gather a small group to test two or three of the sessions.
- Write your self-evaluation and reflect with your supervisor on the process.
- Write your Practicum Summary and Evaluation and submit along with your Supervisor’s Assessment.
